my friend zebrabelly got all old-school crafty and chiseled out her own stamp. i mean, i’ve seen some good looking things made with store-bought stamps, but this is a great way to personalize something as truly your own. actually, i think stamps may have historically originated from embossed rings; families and individuals had their own unique emblems or designs, and these rings were pressed onto melted wax to authenticate and seal letters and correspondence.
she also mentions letterboxing in her blog, which is the second time today that i’ve heard that term. well, she explains it all here.

I’m currently working on my letterboxing stamp. I just posted on Friday about letterboxing. It is really fun! But I used a cheesy pre-made stamp and I won’t go to any more boxes (even though I really, really want to) until I have a unique stamp. Thanks for the link to Zebrabelly, now I know where to get carving tools. Beware – letterboxing is addictive. It would be really fun with kids.
