no, that’s not my age. though i’ve been rocking the grey streak in my hair just to prep myself for attempting to age gracefully. i have nothing against dyeing those greys, but i don’t want to do it to “hide” anything…

grey hairs

no, “50” is about this being my 50th post here. i was curious what others have written about on their 50th post, so i googled “50th blog post” and got all sorts of hits. many have contests, give-aways, profound thoughts and deep insights into some topic or another.

me, i got nothin’.

i have no contests, unless you count moderating the one where 3 kids fight for our 2 beanbag chairs (should’ve really splurged on a 3rd beanbag chair).

i have no give-aways, unless you count my words and photos here. i love writing. i love taking photos. but i know very little about photography. my brother-in-law is a photographer, amongst his many other talents. he takes incredible photos. plus he knows how to process actual film and stuff. if my SD card gives me trouble, i may be tempted to shake it like an etch-a-sketch hoping to put the pixels back in order. but beyond that, i’m stumped. i’m not a photographer, i’m a point-and-shooter. it is so much fun, and i’m learning all the time.

i have no profound thoughts, except what i most often say: “creativity is contagious,” (with “no, we do not eat dirt! spit it out, pteh ptoo yucky!” being in a close second place these days…)

and no deep insights, other than i’ve found that doing what you love, and striving to do it well is as close to a guarantee for personal fulfillment that you can get. since my first post here, i have gotten to know so many of you who do just this. that’s been fun and inspiring, thank you.

but here is what i do have: the luxury of doing what i do. creating, writing, sharing. it really is gravy when i don’t have any of the struggles so many people do around the world: to be safe, to be healthy, to have a home and a life. i have all of that, and a blog :-) where i can write freely. 50 times and counting…

I like your last paragraph. In all the drama of my world (snort) I need to stop and remember that I’m safe and fed and housed and that’s more than many can say. And the community of blogworld is great. Didn’t have that 15 years ago.

How ‘about some dried herbs as a giveaway? Or mosiac pieces?

Wait til you get to the 100’s…it’s weird, when my other blog hit 300 it felt big. Like I should celebrate. But I don’t think I did. Maybe when I hit 1,000!

one of the coolest things I have found about blogging is how it is this wonderful bridge between like minded people all over the globe … I had no idea when I began bbbing (blogblogbloging) the connections it would bring

keep doing what you do so well and YES … we are blessed and have so much to be grateful for!

Don’t underestimate your photography skills because you have a pro in the fam! My sister-in-law is a photographer too and somehow we’ve all become terrible photographers since we started looking at her pictures. She’s amazing, but the rest of us can still take a decent pic once in a while and she’s the first to point it out. Yours are much better than decent. Happy 50th!
PS-Will we be 50 by the time we meet for dinner?

thanks tara, i do enjoy taking photos and sharing them here. but i guess i am a bit technical about the definition of a photographer. it’s like when i worked in a lab, we could train people to push the right buttons to get the right results. but without the knowledge of how the machines worked, they were not able to understand the workings behind the results or to trouble-shoot if things went wonky. i think we’re lucky that technology has made everything so user-friendly that you don’t need to know the intricacies behind, say, computers to use them (ahem). we can use these tools easily and go on to create great things. but i guess i think that there is a lot more behind photography than pressing a button, and i’m just at the beginning of learning all about it.

thanks for your thoughts on this.
p.s. i hope we meet well before then!
