i have a bit of a soft spot for bees…mostly honeybees and bumblebees. there have been beekeepers on both sides of the family. and while i don’t think my affinity towards bees is genetic (in fact, my family is usually quite annoyed by my over-the-top freak outs when any winged insect buzzes near my head), i think bees are sweet, industrious and intelligent creatures that i could watch for hours (as long as they stay away from my head).
the other week, i purchased a pair of handmade bee earrings from victoria, the artist behind the etsy store, the moss garden. i used to make jewelry (i still do for fun, not so much for profit), and i’m sharing this because in my opinion, it had all the elements of a good online transaction…
friendly and quick correspondence from the start. the package arrived quickly, with minimal packaging but well-protected.
a personalized little note inside the card made me feel like i got something unique and got to know the artist a little better…
great product… well made, with attention to detail. i turned the 2nd bee over to show you that the back of it has details too…
handmade, canadian, ships internationally with a hassle-free refund policy, (but she’s not getting these bees back). the moss garden is a store that i can share with good conscience…
when i asked victoria about what inspires her, she said:
I love nature and the animals and plants around us, so I would say that is mainly my inspiration. I just finished a degree in wildlife biology so I’m always trying to incorporate all those cool animals into some sort of design!
victoria is participating in a fundraiser for saving shelter pets, from aug. 16 to the 26th, where 20% of her profits will be donated to a low-cost spay and neuter clinic. you can read more about the fundraiser here.
