we got the idea from apron thrift girl’s daughter, cerys, who provided the tutorial here.
supplies:
- wooden hoop (we used embroidery hoops, the inner or outer loop will work; these can be found in craft shops, dollar stores, thrift stores…)
- twine (we used crochet thread)
- findings (we used feathers and beads)
cut and tied a length of thread to 4 or 5 spots along one side of the hoop…
criss-crossed them to get a web pattern, tying them off on opposite ends of the hoop…
slipped on some beads, added feathers.
snipped off loose thread ends, and tied one more length of thread at the top for hanging…

thanks, they were a lot of fun, though the littlest hands needed some help. they got frustrated when the threads kept slipping around the hoop. great for hand-eye coordination though. and it was a good excuse to talk about the meaning behind these :)

what a great project. i used to love dream catchers when i was growing up.
you know, i never made these growing up! i think that’s part of the reason why i had so much fun making and learning about them.
by the way, i really like what you did with those ikea storage boxes. lining them with the heather bailey fabric. i didn’t realize you have your own line of fabrics… i’d love to learn more about that process if you’re willing to share. great prints!

thanks for stopping by selena. those divided holders are so handy. we weren’t able to get cerys’ nice twisted pattern, so we had to improvise with some criss-crossing of threads. lots of fun, thanks again!
They look great. We can never find embroidery hoops around her, so we tend to take flexible twigs and twist them into a circle – that could definitely work for this project.
We have some seashells with holes in them and feathers from our last trip to the beach – I think I see a crafting project for next week here!
