the lightbulb burnt out, and when i saw the interesting break in the glass with the coils and inner workings still intact and exposed through the frosted glass, it got me thinking.
the lightbulb is a universal symbol for having an idea, at least in cartoons. i held the broken bulb in my hand and wondered about ideas and how they come to be…
(technically, i think instead of a lightbulb being drawn above a person’s head to symbolize having an idea, there should be an overflowing bathtub. i mean, didn’t that whole bathtub eureka moment happen long before the light bulb? hmm? i just think credit should be given where it’s due, that’s all…)
bulbs and ideas. incandescent bulbs only work in a vacuum, devoid of air (or at least need to be filled with an inert gas, so that the filament coils do not oxidize — but let’s not get caught up in geekery details). i think the opposite is true for ideas: they need to be put out there, played with, exposed. what do you think?

I have a Halloween card in progress. I want to make it part of a thematic series of holiday cards. We’ll see how the first one goes before I decide to commit to other holidays.

Oh I wish I had something to add. You definitely got me thinking. I’m going to have to haul my Halloween stash out of the garage and put my silly things on display. Maybe I’ll take some photos of it…and share on le blog.
Genius blog post! I’m skipping over halloween and moving on to Christmas. We don’t get any kids visiting around here. Christmas is so reliable. Every year, same time, there it is and you need a whole bunch of ideas for decorations and gifts.
There are ideas that come as an epiphany, a sudden moment of insight when you’re doing the same old. Maybe that’s an Archimedes idea. And then there are ideas that come after a lot of plodding towards the goal, when you finally get something right… an Edison idea.

How about poor Alfred Russel Wallace, who hardly gets a mention while Darwin hogs all the credit. Darwin had many advantages, a well-to-do family, an academic background, but Wallace matched him and then some.

I have so many ideas running through my head. I would like to journal them all but there’s too many.
One that is foremost in my mind is incorporating the miniature ornamental corn from my garden in an autumn wreath(s), possibly some to sell at the Fall Festival here. It involves preserving last year’s corn well so it doesn’t disintegrate when it is handled. Some of my corn holds together, some does not.
I also have an idea for an invention that will ergonomically improve the umbrella stroller but it’s only now in the idea stage.
how does one preserve corn? is it more than just hanging them up to dry?
I’ve always just hung it to dry, but I’m finding it difficult to manipulate afterward. I wonder if it’s weak for another reason, though. Less nutrients? Desert dryness? Whatever it is I need to figure out how to increase its longevity.

Your thoughts on the bathtub/lightbulb idea are so on target. At the moment, I’m mostly hard at work on writing and organizing my office and studio areas. But I’m also in the process of recovering two ironing boards and refabbing my corkboard message board.

Not many ideas are going through my brain right now. I am in full clothes sewing mode. (In the back of my brain I’m thinking about Halloween costumes.)
as the temps have cooled, i find myself moving indoors and re-organizing things that have gotten a little out of hand over the summer :-) looking forward to your completed projects allysa and camille, thanks for sharing.
One thing I am determined to finish this season is a sweater for my oldest daughter. It’s kind of shamful to admit it’s been a year in the making. The special design I carefully mapped out is driving me nuts! I’ve ripped it out 4 times so far – I’ll get it right yet!
Organizing my house is another thing I notice really, really needs to be done another big ol’ donation pile is in order! :)
I’m playing around with paper. I have a paper blog post coming up at the end of the week, because I’m so busy until then, and in the meantime my children and I are having fun with handmade magnetic paper dolls.
