i’ve been sketching a lot more lately. i carry a small sketch pad with me. i drew some birds while waiting for swim lessons…
if i go a long while without putting pencil to paper, i feel like i’ve regressed. my drawings come out forced and don’t look quite right. but the more i do it, the sooner it comes back to me. i enjoy sketching, and i can get lost in it. it’s the type of thing where i put my head down, scribble a bit, look up and whole hour has flown by.
watercolour, however, is a whole different thing. i feel awkward while doing it. i’m never sure of myself. i’m always questioning the painting when it’s done. is it ever done?
but i want to be able to watercolour. i love the look of watercolour, and i enjoy the process: the way the paint behaves on the brush, when the paint meets the paper or other colours, the sloshing sound of the paintbrush in the water, everything.
there is still a big void between what’s in my mind and what appears on the paper, though. i will continue to work on that…
next time, i’ll share my inspiration for that last painting above.
til then, i’m curious. what activities do you get lost in? what about those things which taunt you or elude you, the ones which you — stubbornly or gracefully — keep trying to grasp?

I can absolutely get lost in pencil drawing, but it’s been a while since I’ve done so. Other artistic activities have seemed a bit more easy to pursue during this particularly busy time in my life.
Your are a fabulous sketch artist. I guess I get lost in creating items for my home or scrapbooking.
I get lost in drawing too. I wish my work day went as fast as “art time” does. I keep dabbling in watercolor because I just adore the way it looks but if I try to do more than a simple wash I get lost in the technique. I think I don’t have the patience for layering.

I am spectacularly un-talented when it comes to drawing, but I can get lost in listening to music, or reading a great book. I keep trying my hand at aspects of graphic design but my successes are few and far between :)
The new banner is lovely. I love to do needlework and knitting and crochet. I can also get lost in a really good book. I also enjoy sketching, but when out of practice am so super critical about my stuff.

I love that watercolour. I have this print of a local artist who is originally from Ireland which is her greatest inspiration. Anyways, this painting of yours reminds me of this print I have, it was a gift 10 years ago for my wedding and I still love it.

Oh yes, I love watercolour and it’s something that I get lost in…like drawing too.

Yep, me too, love the sketching and then freak myself out when I try and apply the watercolour. Some people make it look so effortless *sigh*. Like your birds, they’re very nice sketches.
You are very clever they look great. I just get lost in my idea’s and hardly get time to do any of them… trying now to sort through a few. Haven’t done any drawing since school – maybe I should give it a go :-)

Your sketches are lovely.
I *can* get lost in sketching…but it goes in cycles. There will be years in between, where I just can’t seem to do it. Then all of a sudden, a burst…a few weeks. Then it’s over, again.
I’ve never had the courage yet…to try watercolour.

I also get lost in writing and in photography. Lost, but also found. I discover what I think when I write; what I see when I take pictures.
