thanksgiving long weekend in a nutshell

thanks for all the comments and wishes for a happy thanksgiving over the weekend!

the weekend here started out well enough, with a yearly trip to the amusement park. it’s the perfect time of year. the summer crowds have thinned out, and the sun’s rays come in at just the right angle to warm you up from the cooler autumn air. unlike in the summer, when you are pressed up against strange people in scorching heat and you must tolerate even stranger smells as you wait in line for hours to go hurtling through the air and have your bones jarred on a roller coaster and wonder — “will this be the time the bolt pops out of the old rickety wood holding this thing together?”

yikes. i don’t know why i do it every year…

i had barely marked the punctuation on the sentence in my last post where i said i was thankful for good health, when i started to feel a little tickle in my throat…

a silly cold, plopped down during thanksgiving weekend. and if you’re the kind of person who starts to imagine you have a sniffle or two when you read or hear about someone with cooties, well, i’m sorry about that. quit being such a hypochondriac, will ya? (just kidding. i’m the same.)  here’s a big dose of vitamin c for you. you’ll be ok.

(the lengths i go to for you guys!)

when i wasn’t totally zonked out, i did a stitch or two on the hyperbolic anemone scarf, version 2.0. i’ve made a few more modifications to the pattern and i like it a lot more. it’s about halfway done…

i also had a little photo shoot of my vintage pyrex collection for some upcoming posts. here’s a sneaky peek…

but mostly, i rested. i missed out on thanksgiving dinner. weep for me. but i sent the kiddies and mr.madeItSo on a leftovers retrieval mission. their task was clear. and they didn’t let me down. (thanks mom! sorry i couldn’t be there.)… i’ll be enjoying that, and sharing a new project here, as soon as i’m all better.

oh, and for my own records, craft gossip featured my little folding wings bat card the other day.

Congratulations on the feature of your folding wings bat card, and I can’t wait to see your Pyrex collection. So sorry to hear about the cold though! Here’s hoping you’re well enough in time for the leftovers.

  2. So sorry to hear about the cold! We make ginger tea when we have colds here; have you ever tried that? That scarf is so amazingly beautiful – I just love it!

i’ve never tried it. how do you make it? i recently tried sage tea just by boiling the leaves from the garden, it’s really soothing for a sore throat.

      • It’s a Korean ginger tea, and what you do is boil nice big pieces of ginger for a very long time over low heat along with a cinnamon stick or two. When it’s a golden/amber color, drink, mixed with honey (which is also good for a sore throat). Hope you are feeling better and don’t need this anymore but it’s a good warming tea for the winter months.

  3. Oh, I am so sorry you missed out on Thanksgiving but glad your family remembered you well. Congrats on your card.

alyssa~ it’s not a vast collection, but i adore each one.

    tammy ~ thank you!

Oh! I forgot to tell you. I picked up a 1 cup measure, opaque with an identical pattern to the one you showed us here. You know, when I had my moment. It says Corning on the bottom, not Pyrex.

  7. That’s a very pretty scarf pattern. So…did you make the one you’re wearing in the header as well? Wheee! Love rollercoasters. The trouble with going in fall is it’s a bit cold for the rides that soak you. I love them too. If you go on a drizzly day in summer it is still usually warm and the weather keeps the crowds down and if you get wet on the rides it doesn’t matter cause you’re wet already anyway. Congrats on your card and hope your sniffles don’t tarry.

  9. I get sick at holidays frequently. I think I slow down just enough for the bugs to really settle in. Sorry it hit you for Thanksgiving.

I’ll second the ginger tea suggestion. I put a knot of ginger, sliced to about 1/4″ thickness in hot water for about 10 minutes. I add a teaspoon of honey and a squeeze of lemon or lime. It’s good for sore throats and coughs too.

    Catching up a bit tonight… Hope you’re back to 100% now :)
