i shared this project the other day:
you can find fake spiders everywhere at this time of year (and even a few real ones if you look around my home, eep!)… but i didn’t have any on hand.
here is how i made the tiny spider.
(the eagle-eyed reader will note that my original spider above was made using black twist ties instead of pipe cleaners…whatever works!)
snap buttons like these conveniently have 4 holes in them. i’m sure you see where this is going for our little 8-legged friend…
i took the snap button apart, and using the *top* half of the snap, i passed one piece of pipecleaner through the hole:
and did this for all 4 pieces of pipecleaner. then i just twisted and bent them til i got all the spidey legs in place.
the best part of these little guys is that for the embroidery hoop project shown above, it’s really easy to snap the spider into place. just put the bottom part of the snap underneath the web…
and pop on spidey.
that’s it.

thanks alyssa :-) i’m sure someone out there can run with this idea and make an even better looking one. i just loved the way the snap works for attaching to the web, and how the snap (er, press studs, for paula) had 4 little holes just waiting there for the legs.

Very clever spider! I am planning on making a mat from my straw trivets, inspired by Ana, of course. I just need a few more in the right shapes and I’m going to do it, take a picture and send it to you. Someday. Really.

Okay, Ana, I just had a very Corey idea. What if I use the rip in my doily as the focal point and add something gruesome for the spider to devour? Their meal is always tearing apart their web, get it? Like something got caught and the spider is there either wrapping it up or having a taste. Yeah, I’m going to try that – heh heh.
