i love my weekends. they are always different. we’re not a “mow the lawn on friday, grocery shop on saturday, rest on sunday” sort of family.
some weekends we’re away, some weekends we’re apart. the best weekends are when we are all together no matter where we are.
but i am a home-body. i love my home. i enjoy going out too, but the best part is coming back home.
slipping that key into the lock, reaching for the hall light without having to look for the switch, putting down the bags, taking off the shoes and hanging up the coats. the familiar creaks in the floorboards as i walk down the hall, the curve of the banister always ready to guide me upwards. yes, even those messy spots that tend to accumulate stuff no matter how i try to organize things, and that cobweb in the corner which i keep dusting, which keeps reappearing.
it’s the smell. it’s the feel. it’s my home. and it could be anywhere. but there really is no place else like it…

I feel the same exact way! The best weekends are the ones when we are all together, it doesnt even matter what we’re doing. And I agree – although I enjoy our time out, I love that feeling you get when you come home. I’m known for saying “its good to be home” as I walk through the door. My husband responds with a “mnmhmm”. Predictable. And now our eldest is starting to do the same.
Short, simple, sweet post! :)
I love going to random adventures on the weekends, but I’m a bit of a homebody too. I love staying in, web-surfing, cleaning, crafting, movie-watching, cooking…
I’m actually trying to downsize and stop this homebody habit so I go out and explore more. I miss random trips around Florida :)
So well put and so true… but I think it also has to do with the season…. let’s face it’s getting colder and gray outside – home is a haven to get cozy and comfortable – to sort of hibernate for the next few months ;)
I love especially when it’s raining. Then I feel like I don’t need to go anywhere and get all wet. I can just stay home and be dry and happy with my things.
I’m the same way and I agree with Nancy and nothing beats a cold rainy day where I can stay inside and create something.
I actually tend to get cranky if I don’t get adequate home time. :)
I feel the same way, too. Although I will admit it that I do like to make sure we have enough ‘home time’ most weekends. This year that’s been hard to accomplish, but that makes it that much sweeter when we walk in the door.
I’m pretty much a homebody. It is my safe haven. I love it when we are all together at home. It is my favorite part of the day.
i was going to say that it’s interesting how so many of us can relate… but then i realized, the people who disagree are probably not at home reading this right now. hehe
thanks for all your thoughts.
OMG, how precious is that picture!
I immediately think of all the robins nesting in the spring. =]
beautifully stated Ana
and those birdies are so precious too!

I’m also a home-body. I like to leave & go places, but I love coming back home…
Taken exactly from my thoughts. No matter how much fun I’ve had away (whether for a weekend or longer, or even just a day), I can’t wait to get back to my home. It may not be tidy all the time, and it might not have just the right paint color that makes me sigh when I see it, and it just might have a million un-finished projects that tally up in my mind, but it’s MINE. And it’s comfortable and I love it.

Oh, how I agree! Missed you Ana! Can’t wait to catch up!

We are definitely homebodies too… sometimes we like going out with friends or to dinner or something, but most nights we just look at each other and decide to pop a movie in instead. :) There’s just something very comforting about your own home, and knowing where everything is and that all your things have their proper place.
Oh, I heartily agree with your sentiment! There really is something *breath-taking* about getting back home, in your own bed and in your own worn-in surroundings. It makes the going away that much sweeter, methinks.
ditto to home sweet home. this is a lovely post Ana.
reading this lovely post again makes me say …. ahhhh
so true and so sweet and lovely too!
click your ruby slippers and say….
there’s no place like home…

What a sweet list of reasons for loving one’s life.
I love going away, but I love coming home too. Having a home so far from my original home means I have had to learn to love being wherever I am . . . I suspect all true homebodies are essentially happy-to-the-core types – location is secondary.
