i went for a drive a few nights ago, for a change of scenery and to clear my mind. not from anything horrible. just the result of the noise and clutter of average days falling on top of each other, accumulating to a clatter in my mind which could only be quieted, i thought, by taking myself away for a bit.
the usual haunts proved unsuccessful at lifting my mood, so i felt the pull back home as i often do. i got out of the car, and the wind was blowing wildly, causing the branches above to creak. i glanced upward and saw a beautiful full moon, beaming down at me.
yes at me. it was just for me, i’m selfishly sure of it. because in that moment, it was just me and the moon. not another soul around.
it was quite the moon to behold. i went in and grabbed my camera to try and capture the beauty of it. i should have known better. i should have just stayed put and shared that connection a little bit longer. looking back, it was the equivalent of pulling out my phone during an engaging conversation with an old friend.
so rude.
and my little camera was being as moody as me, probably to put me in my place. all i managed to get were a couple of grainy shots where the velvety soft surface of the moon looked like the blur of a blindingly bright sun.
i slipped my camera in my pocket, took a breath of the cold night air, and turned away from the moon’s glow to go inside.
it’s not until i sat down and wrote this out that i realized the moon turned out to be the change of scenery i had needed. in those few moments, my mind cleared, and my mood lifted. all i had to do was look up.

Soon it will be the phase of the moon
When people tune in
Every girl knows about the punctual blues
But who’s to know the power
Behind our moves

Lovely way to spend a little time alone.
Some things are best just appreciated in the moment, but that’s actually quite an interesting photo. Glad you found a moment of peace and inspiration.
You wrote this so beautifully. This is one of my new favourite posts of yours. Sometimes we need to put down our pens, cameras, and other brilliant devices and simply stare into space. Sometimes staring at kids as they are playing also helps. I’m craving a moon moment like this. Thanks for the inspiration.
So beautiful and I love that photo
beautiful :) And the memory is what’s important. Not the picture :)
What a lovely moment! So glad you had it and shared it with us. :)
What a great moment of stillness. I get it. Sometimes it’s so hard to keep the mind still and enjoy the moment – it’s great how you’ve put it – all you had to do was look up….
xo
This is beautifully expressed!! When I was younger I always spoke to full moons, I still do at times. It’s almost as though the moon holds and protects an important part of my soul.
Sometimes, when the moon is rising later into the night, my eyes will pop open and I’m startled by the sight of the giant glowing orb and I know the moon is waking ME up.
i love those moments! It’s just what you need sometimes :)
Love it! It’s nice to have that momental “clearing” to give you a much needed change of pace.
