i finished these itty bitty things. what are they? my observant twitter friends know. i’ll write more about it soon. it involved yarn left over from another project, and a new-to-me technique.
i went about a day without anything to knit but my fingers needed a new project. i chose something out of elizabeth zimmermann’s knitting without tears book and knit a swatch to work out my gauge.
(for non-knitters amongst us, gauge is basically the # of stitches per inch, and is worked out by knitting a small swatch and measuring. things that affect gauge are many, including but not limited to: yarn, needle size, tension…tension being how tightly you knit, which is aptly named and proportionally related to how much tension you’re feeling at any moment in time.)
i’ve written about this book and elizabeth zimmerman in the past. if you missed it — or didn’t make it through the first time, like corey, who was honest enough to admit it in the comments — please read about it here.
i also found some fantastic fabric in an unlikely place. i wanted some burlap stamped with graphics and letters. thanks to my grocery store’s produce guy, michael, i got just what i was looking for.
don’t be afraid to seek out alternative sources for materials for your creations.
i also ordered a book i’ve been waiting a long time to read. my friend and a friend to this blog, tara benwell has published her first novel on amazon. finally, tara can wear new socks.
congrats tara, i’m looking forward to putting down my knitting and picking up your book (that’s saying a lot, you know).
what did you get up to this weekend? what are you creating?

Hi Ana…….enjoyed following the link to Tara, thank you. Sounds like a great book – I hope she is successful.

I loved seeing your handwriting in this post! It really brought me back to old times. Remember our high school writing class when we used to peer edit poetry and stories? How neat that we can now comment on each other’s blogs. Thanks so much for linking to my book. It was an exciting week to finally get it done and to have my first reading (at an online conference). I’m working on an eBook version now. Thanks again for your support!
that is neat, and yes i do remember. do you remember “poetry bytes” tara?
oh i love a little mystery on a monday morning!
love your beautiful work, nicey.
