today is victoria day here, and a day off for most. it is a statutory holiday in canada, which was first observed in 1845 in honour of queen victoria’s birthday. it’s a much welcomed weekend when the frost is (hopefully) gone for good, and gardeners are out in full force. there are usually bbq’s and fireworks…

for me, it meant a little extra time where i could sneak off and play around with my art supplies. for a while now, i’ve been wanting to use a quill (a lost tail-feather kindly donated by our budgie, sky) and ink on paper…
it’s a lot more fun, and more tricky, than it may look.
(and in a happy coincidence, one of my favourite art bloggers wrote about feathers today too. editing to add: and another now too. huh!)
my time to dedicate to things just for fun and just for me is limited, but when it does happen, i am so grateful. even if it’s just dipping a feather into a mucky pot of white ink for a few minutes.
I love how the fireworks and feathers look alike even! Those stolen artistic moments are sooo nice :) I think I’m about due…

We had a long weekend here in India, too, but I spent it cleaning cupboards . . . exactly the same sense of satisfaction and plenitude resulted, though. I’m still walking around feeling smug.
