Hmm. When my kids were very small, I managed a few sweaters for them, but pretty much gave up as they got larger and the projects got bigger! Your post almost has me convinced to try again. Maybe next winter… Those feet sure look cozy.
it does become more of a commitment as they get bigger. that was the gist of my sentiments in the cartoon i did here about knitting for big feet ;)

You speak for many of us as to why we knit socks. I used to think they were hard until I knit my first pair. So easy! My second pair had YOs and k2tog and lovely waves and eyelets. Never intimidated again.
hi beth. i don’t know if would describe my first pair as easy. but it wasn’t as hard as i’d made it out to be in my mind, that’s for sure. the yo’s and k2tog’s must’ve made a nice pair :)
I have managed to cast on a sock, and am, frankly, too scared to proceed. I’m stuck. Maybe I’ll get it out again today and try again.
uhoh! get thee to a yarn store and ask for help. sometimes all it takes is someone to show you a little trick and it all becomes obvious. good for you for trying!
hi anna, wish i could make socks, but… i can’t follow a pattern and i only know how to knit & purl!! ohhhh, i also crochet LOL single or double!! i do have to say though, many a scarf or blanket were made with these stiches!! u have a great site and thanks for sharing :)
