rockapulco impatiens

yesterday, i was admiring saskatoon stitcher’s garden photos on twitter. she mentioned her love for impatiens and asked me take a photo of mine. here they are…

rockapulco impatiens

they are in a mostly shady location, in two small planters hanging on the side of the fence. they are annuals that have been blooming well for over a month now with plenty more buds about to burst. i’ve never planted impatiens before, and unlike the more common impatiens that have flat petals, these “rockapulco” variety are rounded and layered with multiple petals. very easy to grow and care for (believe me. i have issues :)), especially in containers, with lovely colourful flowers.

My impatiens have become impatient with this weather! I can usually grow them no problem in planters, and I buy a few flats every year. This year I put a bunch in the actual garden (where I have terrible soil thanks to a huge tree). They haven’t died yet, unlike the rest of my garden. I love the heat, but my green stuff is suffering so badly. :) I love watching your garden grow through your blog.

yeah, some things have really suffered because of the high heat (we’re not allowed to complain about that!). have you tried putting mulch down? i got organic cedar mulch this year and it seems to have helped a bit. it keeps the soil moist under the beating sun (again, not complaining!) and i water less frequently.

my cilantro and dill didn’t make it, and my sage is looking iffy.

Absolutely gorgeous. I have a varried selection of colours this year: white, light pink, and dark pink. They are beautiful and do well almost anywhere!

Very attractive color! and polyploidy, too.

Also, great minds think alike. I just posted some shots from my back yard. :D

i love this time of year because the blogs are usually so full of blooming pretty things. off to see yours…

  6. One of my favourite garden flowers! I love how double impatiens remind me of little roses with so much less work.

Like many in Ottawa, I’ve been kept really busy hauling water from my rain barrels to the gardens. I’m dreading the rain barrels running dry so hoping for showers soon!
