i’ve been working on a few things. our daughter was recently asked to be the flower girl in a wedding, and i have had a hard time finding a dress at this point in the season. most stores are out of stock, and it was too late to order. also, i didn’t feel my skills with sewing slippery satin were up to the challenge of making a dress myself. (one day, one day… confidence right?)
so instead, i finished altering a flower girl dress from a size 6 to a 10. two panels of satin sewn into the sides under the arms did the trick. i made a blue taffeta sash to match the bridesmaids’ dresses.
also, in the busy-ness of things, i forgot a family member’s birthday. a point which he light-heartedly reminded me, a few times, and will (like all good family members) never let me live down. in the past, he has hinted that i should knit him an aran sweater, but he’ll have to settle for a pair of socks — which i have cast on the needles tonight — as a belated gift of forgiveness.
and we’re only a couple of weeks away until the start of school. my youngest will be boarding the bus with the older two this year. end of an era. i’m savouring these days, but pressing pause doesn’t seem to be working as the calendar pages are flying off the ream faster and faster.
oh wow, you are so creative, what a beautiful dress too. Enjoy the rest of your break with your little ones home. Yes, the days do seem to go too fast, it’s just not fair! Would love to see your socks when done, I am making a wrap in a sock yarn at the moment. lol. It’s actually really quite lovely – and yes, I am surprised! lol. Have a fabulous week.

of course :) i was picking out a purse for the wedding. requirements: 1. does it match my dress? 2. does it fit my camera?
way to go on the dress! i recently did an emergency bridesmaid alteration along the same lines–the day before the wedding was her first try on, and the dress was close to 3″ too small at the top. eek! some underarm panels fixed it up nicely though.

Hey sweet girl! Looks like your a “sewing mama” again! Beautiful job and creative solution indeed. I too have dusted off the machines to start sewing again for my grandchild coming soon. In the process I was going through the fabric stash and it reminded me of you. Remember all that hard to find fabric we were crazy for back in the day? Memories…
