bringing the outdoors in (but not too much!)

fall is definitely in the air. i’ve brought a bit of it indoors this year, with leaves and branches from around the house gathered on my mantel.

i love the textures and colours this time of year brings.

i’ve also brought in the last of the tomatoes, cucumbers,  cut back my herbs and dried them. we’ve also built two raised cedar beds in anticipation of planting more veggies this spring. i’ll have to write about that another time.

but as it happens this time of year, the cold has also found its way indoors. the floors feel cold and you can hear the dragging of my shaggy slippers across the frigid floor in the mornings (shuffling in the general direction of the coffee pot). you will also hear exclamations of “it’s freezing!” from various family members (myself included). but i’m trying to see how long we can go before turning on the heat.

i think i’ll go put one more sweater on…

I told myself when it goes below 64 (17.7) I may have to turn the heat on for a bit…
we’ve had a nice long stretch without A/C or heat which has been enjoyable

hi patty! the chinese lanterns are so nice, i didn’t know about them before this year. those are ones i got at the farmer’s market and dried. they keep their colour really well. i also went to the garden store to buy my own to plant, and they said they don’t sell it because it’s a weed! humph, how snobby :) i know they can take over, but i’d still like them. i wonder if i can plant the pit that’s inside the lanterns and expect them to grow, hmm…
